One of the most enjoyable festivals I’ve come across along my travels around the world has got to be Holi, the festival of colour that was being celebrated while I was travelling in India. My first encounter with the festival was seeing cows along the road all covered with bright colourful powder. As I arrived at my beach shack for breakfast, I found that it was not just the cows that were getting covered in the stuff, but everyone was throwing colourful powder at one another, and it took no time at all for me to join in and look the part.
So I was very excited to learn that for the first time ever, a Holi Festival is being celebrated this year right here in Leicester. This free event will be taking place at Abbey Park in Leicester this Saturday and is sure to be a fun-filled day of colour and cultural celebration. Holi celebrates the end of winter and the start of spring.
What to Expect
The main activity will be Colour throwing, known as Dhuleti. Powered colours will be available to purchase at the festival, for you to unleash the child in you and shower your friends and loved ones with vibrant colour.
There will be action-packed stage performances throughout the event including a unique theatrical production, lively dances, and an interactive quiz.
Other activities will include a storytelling bus, face painting, drawing competitions, yoga and meditation workshops, kabaddi and kho-kho workshops, a Dand martial arts workshop, and last but not least, the Holi fire wheel of virtue.
This truly is an event not to be missed.
