People have enjoyed surfing in the UK ever since 1929 when a group of aussie teenagers brought the sport to England.
Today the sport has a significant following, and it’s very easy to catch the surfing bug. With International Surfing Day coming up this week and perfect conditions this time of year, there’s no better time to hit the waves.
With nearly 20,000 miles of coastline, Britain is the perfect place to take up surfing. And here at Snizl, we’ve put together a list of our 6 favourite surfing spots!
1. Watergate Bay, Cornwall
This spot is the perfect alternative to the crowds at nearby Newquay and is littered with some of the best surf schools in the UK.
2. Rest Bay, South Wales
This secret little gem is one of the closest surf beaches to Cardiff and boasts rideable waves every single day
3. Saunton Sands, Devon
An ideal location for beginners; with gentle waves along its sloping beach.
4. Saltburn, Cleveland
The surf scenes one and only in the north-east of the country, also perfect for beginners. And don’t forget to check out the Saltburn Surf Shop.
5. Gower Peninsula, South Wales
Three miles of beach breaks make Llangennith a Welsh favourite.
6. Sennen Cove, Cornwall
Due to its exposed location, when everywhere else is flat, Sennen still holds great waves.
