What’s the best thing about being a student…? New friends? Care free mid-week nights out? The… education? Nope.
It’s the discounts.
If you’re lucky enough to hold an elusive “NUS card” read on: we’re going to show you just some of the very best deals that are ready and waiting for you to take advantage of right here in Nottingham. Last week we looked at some of the best restaurants for students and this week we explore some of the great stuff to see and do in the city to help you make the best of your student card!
Things to Do
Nottingham Castle
Nottingham Castle is best known locally for… not really being a castle at all. It’s actually a 17th Century mansion built on the site of a medieval castle. That said, the museum within it is by no means a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon, while the grounds alone are worth a wander on a sunny day. Students get a pound off the entry price (£5 instead of £6) however, get yourself a Citycard (free, and available to anyone with a Nottingham address) and you can visit the castle for just £2 on weekdays.
Student card needed? Yes. Or a Citycard.
MFA Bowl
On the outskirts of The Lace Market you’ll find Nottingham’s only centrally-located bowling centre. As well as the lanes you’ll find arcade machines, pool tables, a licensed bar, and a café (Fat Sam’s Diner) serving the usual fast food fare. Students pay just £3.50 a game, all day every day, while selected food and drink is only £2 on Thursdays.

National Ice Centre
Nottingham’s National Ice Centre houses the first twin Olympic-sized ice rink in the UK, with one rink open to the public and the other home to Nottingham’s two ice hockey teams: The Panthers and The Lions. The second rink is regularly covered to make way for concerts and other events at “The Motorpoint Arena”, previously “The Capital FM Arena”.
Students can take advantage of a skate and skate hire deal for a fiver (instead of the usual price of £6.50).

Broadway Cinema
Nottingham’s independent Broadway Cinema complex features four screens, two bars (food is served), and a calendar of live events.
Cinema tickets are just £5.50 for students (instead of £8.20), or you can take advantage of the film and food deal for just £12 (instead of £14).
Student card needed? Yes
Lost City Adventure Golf
This state-of-the-art adventure golf complex is the first of its kind in the East Midlands. With two 18 hole courses and a licensed bar with drinks and light snacks (note that food and drink can’t be taken onto the course) there’s more than enough to while away an hour or two on a rainy afternoon.
Students pay £6 (instead of £7.50) to play one course or £10 for both. Go for the £10 option and you get a free beer too – bonus!
