Dessert parlours have been popping up in many cities over the past couple of years, but David Stevenson, a BBC One Apprentice contender who reached week eight in 2015, is pulling out all the stops when it comes to his new dessert store, Alaskan Ice on Watnall Road, Hucknall.
Serving 10 gelatos, 23 different flavours of ice cream and real fruit smoothies, David has launched the new dessert and milkshake parlour with optimism and it seems the reception and success has even surprised David himself.
The interior was designed to look like a log cabin upon Alaskan mountains, with small electric log burners in each corner of the store to give it a cosy feel when tucking into warm or cold deserts. The business has been entirely self-financed and has been open since March 13th.
The friendly staff were pleased to describe the best desserts on the menu and suggested I try their cookie dough, it came in minutes, piping hot and cooked to perfection – and in my opinion, the most delicious cookie dough I’ve tried.
Displayed, there are jars full of chocolatey favourites that you can mix and match in milkshakes for no more than £3.50!
Their speciality ‘Freakshakes’ are available for just £6.00 and are definitely going down well with the customers. David told us “We’ve been really busy… in the first couple of days we had sold out of everything, we had to close early and order more stock to come as soon as possible!”
After a good reception from customers, it seems there’s definitely been a gap in the market for this icy desert parlour and it will continue to thrive. When asking an employee about the upcoming future, she began to say “There are attempts being made to get a licence to serve alcohol in the evenings…” She then joked “We could start doing milkshake cocktails.”
It sounds like Alaskan Ice still has plenty more ideas for the future and their large following on facebook will keep customers updated on all new products you can expect to see hitting the menu in coming weeks.
